Val James, AMFT

My name is Val, and I’m a psychotherapist, an advocate, and an artist. I’m here to help you reach your fullest potential.

Val James, AMFT

As a therapist, I love the part of my job where we really start to know who you are and start accepting how to love all the messy, dark, chaotic parts of yourself.

My name is Val, and I am a psychotherapist, a collaborator, and a steady presence. I am here to help you feel less alone with the parts of your life that have been hard to name.

Support does not have to wait until you have burned your life down to breathe again. In therapy with me, we can make room for the anxiety and ambivalence that feel like they are strangling you right now as you try to find yourself in the mess of entanglements that are your responsibilities and relationships.

I work with thoughtful, self-aware people who are trying to understand themselves more honestly and live with more ease. My style is warm, conversational, and active. I care about creating a space that feels genuine and grounding, where you can be fully honest and still feel respected, held, and met as a whole person.

I especially enjoy working with LGBTQ+ clients who are exploring and processing how to love and embrace their chaotic, often traumatic, pasts. This often means drawing on my work with neurodivergence and trauma to make sense of how you work just a little differently in all parts of your life from relationships to sex to work.

My approach draws from relational, psychodynamic, humanistic, experiential, trauma-focused, CBT, and motivational interviewing practices. In practice, this means we pay attention to the patterns that shaped you, the relationships that matter now, and the emotions in your body to find the practical tools that can help you feel more steady day to day.

I am a Registered Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT #152614). I received my graduate training at The Wright Institute and work under supervision as an associate therapist.

If you are tired of making everything make sense alone, I would be honored to sit with you in the honest middle of it. Together, we can slow down, listen closely, and help you reconnect with yourself, your relationships, and a life that feels more like yours.

With care,

Val James, AMFT #152614
